5 Star Accomodations

Rachel Kirkland is the best hostess EVER! We enjoyed the star treatment as soon as we entered, even though it wasn't 1 AM until we arrived. She had a table of bed-side refreshments waiting for us in our room. Next morning was all about Elijah Hawk. Let's just say that babies make us melt and speak in strange tongues. :)

Leaving El Paso, but Texas is Never Ending

Today, Sunday, was about Texas. There were tarantulas crossing the hot damp road, beautiful lightening storms, along with our own personal rainbow.

All In All . . .

. . . it was a great day and we arrived in El Paso, TX at 3 AM thanks to Krissy's addiction to Harry Potter 6 on CD.

5 Minutes Later

After using the bathroom again (60 miles is a far way to go!! Don't judge!) and getting back Carolyn's wallet, we were shocked and embarrassed to realize we had lost the keys. Sheepishly, we approached the clerk again and asked if anyone had picked up some keys. Laughing and shaking her head in disbelief, she handed us our keys.

We now convinced the Food Mart is cursed!

120 Mile Mistake

Still on the first day . . . about 4 hours into our trip. . .

As we were finally pulling into Blythe, I went to reach for my wallet to pay for more ridiculously priced gas. Then, GASP, my wallet was not there. Krissy calmly helped me look through the car but I realized soon enough it was sixty miles in the western direction from which we just traveled. Yes ladies and gentlemen, I left it in a gas station bathroom in the middle of the desert, across from the General Patton Museum. Without a word of rebuke, Krissy drove us back. Thankfully God was already taking care of us. The clerk found it! Praise God!!

Flip Out 6/28

So, Krissy and I already had quite the little adventure. A windy, bumpy, steep dirt road+ a fully loaded Ford Escape+ a 5X8 U-Haul trailer= a near death experience. OK, so it wasn't that bad, but there were ten seconds of sheer terror. :) I won't even mention that we have already stopped four times . . . that could be embarrassing.

U-hauls and Empty Rooms

Enough said . . . :)

Is it really Wed?

My roommates just surprised me with dinner at my favorite little Italian restaurant in Long Beach. I was sad when Esther prayed about our "last" family night. (We set aside time once a week to intentionally connect with each other.) How did it get to be only 2 days before I move?

Yet, I am also so excited by the adventure of it all. My friend, Krissy, came over tonight to discuss the details of the trip. We resolved on leaving at 6am on Sat and plan to make it to El Paso that same day. Bring it on, Texas! :) Mapping out the details made everything so real . . .

Saying good-bye to my sister and her kids was the hardest of the good-byes so far. Tears. At least I get to see them one more time before I go! :) Tomorrow is the day I conquer the T.V. and U-haul! Whoo hoo!
